Renfe Cercanías – the state company responsible for the operation of commuter trains and stations in major Spanish cities- entrusted Mormedi with the redesign of its environment- including furniture, signs and in-station flow. The company wanted to remove design fragmentation and promote the Cercanías brand in line with its new corporate image.
Based on the iconic logo of Cercanías, a coherent design language was developed and applied consistently throughout the entire product family thus creating a unified image for the Renfe Cercanías brand.
Modularity of the designs and an increase in material robustness were other improvements that created added value for the client.
We analyzed different stations of the company to draw conclusions that help us define the new furniture. We explored customer expectations; accessibility for all users; taking into account the aging of the population, people with disabilities and the ones which arrived with luggage; expectations of the company; brand awareness; sustainability; safety; adaptability to new technologies...
Definitely, we defined the customer experience to the smallest detail, from the environment of the station to the entrance, hallways, corridors of access, wagons, etc.
Thanks to the work of a multidisciplinary team with extensive experience in the public transport sector, we created an innovative concept for Renfe Cercanías stations, new furniture capable of satisfying user experience of the most demanding customers.
To achieve this, we created a typology of modern furnishings, with warm and consistent materials and low-energy luminaries. We provided suitable solutions to customers increasingly aware of the value of services, who are worried about sustainable solutions and willing to make the most of their trip.
