Designing the Future of Healthcare: Human-Centered Innovation at Philips’ 100-Year Milestone in Spain

Mormedi’s Head of Design, Fred Misik, recently participated in Philips’ centennial event in Spain, joining healthcare, innovation, and design leaders in Madrid to explore the future of care. Hosted at Espacio V64, the event focused on a key challenge: understanding the role of innovation and how to ensure that increasingly advanced healthcare systems remain deeply human.

Opening the session, Miguel de Foronda highlighted that innovation today goes beyond technology, it requires rethinking processes, improving usability, and embedding sustainability. With nearly 87% of Philips’ sales in Spain aligned with eco-design criteria, the company is advancing a model of responsible innovation. From a clinical perspective, Ignacio Fernández Lozano and José Carmelo Albillos emphasized that innovation only delivers value when it is effectively integrated into clinical practice, making collaboration across the ecosystem essential.

Fred Misik contributed to the design and innovation panel alongside David José Prado, Humberto Matas, and Jon Rodriguez, bringing Mormedi’s perspective on the role of design in complex environments such as healthcare. A shared view emerged: design is not about aesthetics, but adoption. In complex environments, it is what makes technology intuitive, trustworthy, and usable. As Fred noted, the real challenge is not technological, but how we shape interactions that respond effectively to the needs of patients and professionals.

Looking ahead, healthcare is moving toward more predictive and personalized systems. Yet alongside this shift comes a critical responsibility: ensuring ethical, human-centered use of data and technology. At Mormedi, we believe the future of healthcare lies in turning complexity into clarity, designing solutions that not only perform, but truly connect with people, and contributing actively to conversations that shape the sector.
