Challenging the future of Urban Mobility

1O1 - Modular Mobility is a new vehicle concept that explores what the future of urban transportation could look like. By combining electric autonomous mobility with an integrated, highly adaptable system, the 101 vehicle family helps cities to better manage resources and provide more sustainable, inclusive, flexible, and personalized options for moving citizens, services, and industry.

Challenge

Our challenge was to create a solution that would respond to the question: what does the future of urban transportation look like? Key to a successful concept is the satisfaction of the diverse, real-world, evolving needs of the citizens within cities, from shift-workers to office workers, single parents to pensioners, and their desire for a safer, more affordable, efficient, and sustainable transport system. An integrated systems approach could remove the need for extensive private car ownership. With private vehicles in use less than 4% of their lifetime, they currently spend up to 23 hours a day parked somewhere in the city, taking up valuable space.

Approach

The “1O1 - Modular Mobility” concept is made up of two modules, “Power” and “Space”, which can be combined to form a diverse range of vehicles from taxis, limousines, and buses, to ambulances, waste disposal, cargo and logistics transporters, and last mile delivery trucks. New uses for mobile spaces can be explored such as sleeper cabins, meeting rooms, and food trucks. Adaptability is immediate, responding to users’ needs at any given moment. Accessed through an app, user need and preference data is collected to allow for increasingly efficient services over time.

An adaptable, simplified system that can help cities to better manage resources and provide more sustainable, inclusive, flexible, and personalized options for moving citizens, services, and industry.
